ChatGPT
OAuth-only custom connectors — same pattern as Claude Desktop, not API key.
ChatGPT's Developer Mode custom connectors only support OAuth, No Auth, or Mixed — there's no custom-header/API-key option, so Spomory's x-api-key endpoint doesn't apply here. Only the OAuth mount (the same one Claude Desktop uses) works. Verified end-to-end against a real ChatGPT account, including the write tools (add_memory, forget_memory, forget_all_memory) — note that OpenAI's own documentation is inconsistent about write-tool availability across different ChatGPT plans, so if it doesn't work on your specific plan, that's a plan-level restriction on OpenAI's side, not a Spomory one.
Cloud (OAuth 2.1)
OpenAI has moved this UI at least once — as of 2026-10, it's Settings → Plugins → Developer mode, toggle it on (flagged "Elevated risk": lets you add unverified connectors). Back on the Plugins page, click the + (top right) → Create custom MCP server → Create MCP App, then fill in:
- Name: anything, e.g. Spomory
- Description (optional): matters more than it looks — the model reads it when deciding whether to use the connector
- Connection: keep Server URL selected (not Tunnel — that's for exposing a local dev server, not this hosted one)
- Server URL: https://api.yliuai.com/mcp
- Authentication: OAuth (the default) — ChatGPT discovers Spomory's OAuth metadata and registers itself automatically
Check "I understand and want to continue" and click Create — it redirects to the same email magic-link sign-in every other OAuth client on this page uses.
Verified end-to-end, including all six tools, resolving to the same account/memory graph as every other client on this page. OpenAI's own documentation remains inconsistent about write-tool availability across plans, so this may not carry over to every ChatGPT plan. If OpenAI moves this UI again, the OAuth endpoint itself (https://api.yliuai.com/mcp) doesn't change — just the path to the form.
Make it actually get used
Connecting the tools doesn't mean your client reaches for them on its own — it needs to be told to call search_memory before answering and add_memory after you share something worth keeping. SKILL.md is a short instructions file that does that. How you load it is specific to each client: some auto-discover a skills folder the same way Claude Code does, others only have a custom-instructions or system-prompt field instead. Verified for this one:
ChatGPT has no skills-folder concept — paste SKILL.md's content into Settings → Personalization → Custom Instructions instead.
